Russian hockey player disqualified by the international federation for doping

For 8 months, the Russian hockey player, defender of the Nizhny Novgorod Chaika, Dmitry Komarov, was disqualified for violating anti-doping rules. This was announced on Tuesday by the press service of the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF).
It is explained that Komarov was checked after the Youth Hockey League match against Siberian Snipers (Novosibirsk) on November 30, 2021.
The laboratory detected the presence of tuaminoheptane, a substance on the WADA Prohibited List for 2021 in the Stimulants section.
The period of validity of the disqualification is counted from March 23. On this day, Komarov submitted his first explanation and voluntarily accepted the suspension.
In May, he applied for a retroactive Therapeutic Use Exemption, but it was rejected.
The IIHF report noted that the anti-doping rule violation by the hockey player was not recognized as intentional. It was established that he used a prohibited drug in the out-of-competition period.
In addition, the federation took into account “that the drug was prescribed to the player by a doctor due to his condition”, as well as the player’s youth, inexperience and lack of anti-doping education.
Komarov is 19 years old, this season he has played 39 matches, making 1 assist.
