The head coach of the Belgorod handball club Tekhnolog-Spartak Sergey Kramskoy said that the team player, winner of the European Youth Championship Nikita Zadorozhny died of blood cancer at the age of 27.
Kramskoy said that last May, the athlete received a severe knee injury that required surgery. He noted that the recovery of Zadorozhny lasted a very long time, and even after a year it was difficult for him to train. As the coach noted, one day the handball player sent him a message in which he said that he would not be able to return to the sport and help the team, because he was diagnosed with blood cancer.
According to Kramskoy, the athlete’s mother has been fighting cancer for 15 years, and the disease could be inherited. The coach added that they often corresponded, and Zadorozhny believed that he could overcome the disease and return to normal life. He clarified that the last time they talked was 10 days ago, and then the handball player told him to give his game number to a young capable player, wishing him good luck in the upcoming matches.
