The grand opening of the Russian Greco-Roman wrestling championship took place in Naro-Fominsk. 22 athletes will represent the capital region in the tournament, reports the press service of the Ministry of Physical Education and Sports of the Moscow Region.
On the carpet of the Nara sports complex, medals will be played in ten weight categories. Major competitions in classical wrestling are held in the region every year. Wrestlers from the Moscow region perform on the international stage as part of the Russian national team, said the head of the department, Dmitry Abarenov. According to the results of the comprehensive competition last year, the Moscow region for the first time became the strongest in the team competition in Greco-Roman wrestling.
More than 300 wrestlers from 49 regions of the country applied to participate in the tournament, the source clarified.
