The majority of Russian gamers (45%) want a film adaptation of the Atomic Heart video game — this became known as a result of a VK Play survey of 123 thousand students in the “Games” direction in Skillbox and the VK Play community. In second place in demand is Cyberpunk 2077 (44%), followed by God of War (35%). Also, Russian gamers would not mind seeing film adaptations of Red Dead Redemption 2 (33%) and Grand Theft Auto (26%).
The respondents noted the most successful and unsuccessful screen adaptations of video games. Among the best examples are Warcraft, the series Arcane and The Last of Us, as well as the films Mortal Kombat and Uncharted: Off the Map. The film adaptations of Far Edge, Hitman, Need for Speed: Need for Speed, Sonic Movie and Super Mario Bros are considered the worst.
Russian gamers are divided in their opinion, what is the key to a good film adaptation, a third of the respondents believe that this is either the maximum visual and plot correspondence to the game, or a bold adaptation of the script to the format of a movie or TV series, or the participation of game creators. The main disadvantages of film adaptations were the desire of the filmmakers to cash in on the fans of the games, as well as the conjecture of motives for the characters. Also, a bad screen adaptation spoils the impression of the game. Adventure, action, and role-playing games were recognized as the best games for adaptations. The worst are survival and shooters.
