Russian Foreign Ministry urged countries not to participate in the “peace summit” on Ukraine

Russia urges countries not to participate in the “peace summit” on Ukraine, as it is provocative. This was stated by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova. The briefing was broadcast on the VKontakte page of the Foreign Ministry.

“We call on responsible states that truly strive for peace and, moreover, declare their desire and readiness to play a constructive role in the search for a political and diplomatic solution to the conflict, not to participate in this undertaking. It is provocative,” she said.

Zakharova explained that the participation of the countries of the world in the summit is necessary for the West in order to “create the appearance of broad support for its outcome.” According to her, this will only delay “the prospect of a peaceful settlement.” Zakharova added that attempts to “determine the outcome” of the Ukrainian conflict without participating in the discussion of Russia are “doomed to fail.”

On June 25, the head of the office of the Ukrainian president, Andriy Yermak, in his Telegram channel proposed to organize a global “peace summit” and hold it in Ukraine. According to him, this will be the next step after consultations in Copenhagen on the key principles of building peace with representatives of different states, including the EU countries, the United States, Brazil, India, Turkey, Saudi Arabia and others.

In November 2022, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky, speaking at the G20 summit, listed 10 conditions of the “Ukrainian peace formula”, among which are the restoration of the territorial integrity of Ukraine, the withdrawal of Russian troops from its territory, fixing the end of the conflict, as well as ensuring food, energy and nuclear safety.

In response, the Russian authorities said that Zelensky’s “peace formula” had nothing to do with peace, and notedthat Kyiv is not ready for dialogue. On the eve of June 27, the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov emphasizedthat at the moment there are no prerequisites for negotiations with Ukraine, since “this is absolutely ruled out” by Kiev and Western countries.
