Poland will be protested in connection with the disruption of the wreath-laying ceremony by Russian diplomats in Warsaw, says in a statement from the Russian Foreign Ministry.
“The Polish side will be strongly protested. We consider this as yet another manifestation of unfriendly attitude on the part of the Polish side and, above all, an insult to the memory of more than 600,000 Soviet soldiers who died during the liberation of Poland from German occupation, a failure to fulfill obligations to stop such incidents,” the statement says.
Russian Ambassador to Poland Sergey Andreev earlier today couldn’t lay wreaths in memory of those who died during the Great Patriotic War. He was thwarted by a crowd at a memorial cemetery in Warsaw. It is known that one of the organizers demanded that Andreev remove the St. George ribbon. As a result, the diplomatic mission left the memorial.
Last year, on May 9, Andreev was attacked while laying flowers at a military memorial cemetery. Then he was doused with red paint, after which the ambassador left the cemetery, accompanied by police.
