The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned Canadian Ambassador to Moscow Alison Le Claire, should from a statement from the Foreign Office.

Stepanov was twice summoned to the Canadian Foreign Office – November 28 and 5th of December. The first time this happened was after the Russian diplomatic mission published on its Twitter a post with a crossed-out LGBT flag and the comment “It’s all about the family. The family is a man and a woman and children. The Canadian government considered such statements an attack on the country’s values.
The second time, according to the diplomat himself, was due to a press release about the Holodomor in Ukraine, which was also distributed by the diplomatic mission. It said that back in 2010, the concept of “Holodomor as a genocide of Ukrainians” was rejected as false and unscientific by the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), which recognized the death of millions of people in that historical period in Belarus, Kazakhstan, Moldova, Russia and Ukraine .
