Russian Foreign Ministry: EU mission will actually deal with the external management of Moldova

The civil mission established by the European Union in Moldova was created only in order to carry out external management of the republic, the report says. comments Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova.

“Essentially emphasizing the “partner” nature of the new mission, the EU members, as always, are cunning … The sign should not create illusions about what the EU representatives will do there, exercising de facto external control of Moldova,” the message says.

The Foreign Ministry also stressed that the EU’s recent efforts to act as a mediator in other regions have failed. Thus, the EU’s attempts to implement the agreement reached within the framework of the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue on the establishment of the Community of Serbian Municipalities of Kosovo are “openly sabotaged” by the Kosovo authorities with the full connivance of the EU and the US. The EU civil mission in Armenia also did not lead to the normalization of relations in the Transcaucasus, the representative of the Foreign Ministry added.

“It is unlikely that a new presence in Moldova will help stabilize the situation in the country and the adjacent region,” Zakharova concluded.

European Union established EU Partnership Mission to Moldova (EUPM Moldova) on 24 April. Its goal is to improve the country’s security, as well as “countering foreign manipulation of information and interference.”

According to EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs Josep Borrell, Russia is stepping up hybrid actions “to destabilize” Moldova.

“The deployment of this new mission is another important political sign of the EU’s support in the current difficult circumstances,” he said.

The initial term of the mission will be two years. Mission members will provide strategic advice on the development of strategies and policies to respond to hybrid threats.

Earlier, Prime Minister of Moldova Dorin Recean said on TV8 that the authorities amounted to a long list of people who are banned from entering the country. According to him, this list is not public, and therefore many of those who are on it learn about the ban only when they try to enter the republic.
