The crew of the Russian MiG-31 fighter escorted the R-8A Poseidon base patrol aircraft of the Norwegian Air Force over the Barents Sea and prevented the violation of the Russian state border. About it reported in the Russian Ministry of Defense.

“Russian means of airspace control over the Barents Sea have detected an air target approaching the state border of the Russian Federation. To identify an air target and prevent violation of the state border of the Russian Federation, a MiG-31 fighter jet from the air defense forces of the Northern Fleet was lifted into the air.

The Ministry of Defense noted that when the MiG-31 approached, the Norwegian plane turned around from the Russian border. The ministry added that the flight of the Russian fighter was carried out in accordance with international rules for the use of airspace.

This is the fourth time in the last two weeks that the Ministry of Defense reports that the Norwegian Poseidon is approaching the Russian state border. In particular, similar incidents took place on 14, 23 and 24 August. In none of the cases was the state border violated.
