Russian environmental operator proposes to ban throwing clothes into shared bins

The Russian Environmental Operator (REO) suggests that Russians should gradually stop throwing clothes in containers for ordinary municipal solid waste (MSW). Instead, special containers and vending machines for textiles should be installed, they said. “Izvestia” in REO.
Fandomat is a machine for receiving secondary raw materials, which gives out rewards for the delivery of containers. The reward can be monetary, in the form of points and checks for a store or public transport.
The operator notes that now the discarded clothes and shoes end up in landfills in the total mass of garbage and it is impossible to isolate them and send them for recycling. The installation of containers and vending machines for textiles will help organize the recycling of used items, REO is sure.
It is assumed that non-profit organizations will be involved in the installation of containers – in particular, charitable foundations that help those in need, or funds for the collection and processing of clothes. Business will allocate space for them. REO stressed that the emphasis is on rewards, not punishment for violators. Other approaches to the implementation of the ban will be discussed by the authorities in the future, the REO said.
