Russian Embassy in the USA: The States will not intimidate Russians with sanctions amid the elections

Washington is threatening Russian citizens with another wave of sanctions due to elections in new regions, but the United States will not be able to intimidate the Russians. About it says in a commentary from the Russian Embassy in the USA.

“Here [США] They are cruelly mistaken in thinking that they can intimidate us and everyone who understands the true nature of the conflict in Ukraine with restrictions. <...> “Russians are not going to look back at Washington’s opinion when it comes to determining their national future,” the statement said.

As the diplomatic mission noted, American authorities continue to interfere in the internal affairs of other countries and consider themselves entitled to “make cautions” regarding the conduct of elections abroad. In particular, the embassy recalled, Washington threatens sanctions against independent international observers.

September 7 US Secretary of State Antony Blinken warnedthat the United States may impose sanctions and visa restrictions on “individuals who may support” elections in new Russian territories and Crimea. According to him, this also applies to international observers. Blinken stressed that Washington “will never recognize Russian claims” to these territories.

A single voting day is scheduled for September 10 in Russia. Elections from September 8 to 10 will also be held in new regions – the DPR, LPR, Zaporozhye and Kherson regions. Early voting for residents of new regions at extraterritorial polling stations (established on the territory of the “old” constituent entities of the Russian Federation with the consent of local election commissions) ended 4 September.
