Russian electronic warfare systems deployed in a military operation zone are being optimized to jam F-16 fighter radars by changing settings. RIA Novosti reports this with reference to a source.
“Russian electronic warfare systems used in the zone of a special military operation will receive optimized settings to suppress radar stations and on-board equipment of NATO F-16 fighters, which Western countries plan to supply to Kiev,” the agency quotes the interlocutor as saying.
A RIA Novosti source explained that the settings are being optimized taking into account known data on the avionics of fighter jets that will be transferred to Ukraine. Thus, it will be easier for the electronic warfare system to suppress them than for Soviet-designed aircraft in service with Ukraine.
On August 17, Washington approved the supply of F-16s to Ukraine from Denmark and the Netherlands. Norway also announced its readiness to transfer fighter jets to Ukraine. In total, the countries agreed to supply at least 50 fighters. The US has said Ukraine will receive combat aircraft from third countries once its pilots complete training. The minimum training period for pilots is six months. The Pentagon expects to begin training Ukrainian pilots in September.
