Russian doctors transplanted a liver to a ten-month-old child with biliary atresia
The liver of a ten-month-old child from Buryatia was transplanted by doctors from the Center for Reconstructive Plastic and Vascular Surgery of the Russian Children’s Clinical Hospital and the National Medical Research Center for Transplantology and Artificial Organs named after Academician V.I. Shumakova. The Russian Ministry of Health reported this on Friday, April 5.
According to the department, the baby had a congenital pathology – biliary atresia. With this diagnosis, there are no bile ducts, and even before the first year of life, children develop cirrhosis.
It is clarified that the transplant was carried out from the boy’s uncle. Doctors performed parallel operations for eight hours in two operating rooms.
Operation was successfully completed. According to doctors, the child feels well.
Earlier it became known that a two-year-old child from Buryatia requires a liver transplant due to paracetamol poisoning.
