Four special armored trains of the Railway Troops of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation operating in the NVO zone successfully repelled all the attacks of the Ukrainian side when performing combat missions, Lieutenant-General Oleg Kosenkov, head of the Main Directorate of the Railway Troops of the Russian Defense Ministry, told reporters.
The following trains are involved in the defense: Baikal, Amur, Volga and Yenisei.
Kosenkov clarified: “All the attacks of sabotage and reconnaissance groups of the armed formations of Ukraine on special trains, when they performed their tasks, were successfully repelled with heavy losses for the enemy.”
The representative of the Defense Ministry added that in case of damage to existing railway lines, restoration is carried out by specialized units and mobile tactical groups.
Russian railway troops are now performing technical reconnaissance, demining, restoration of damaged railway sections, escorting military cargo, building crossings, excavation and clearing rubble.
Armored trains are armed with ZU-23-2 anti-aircraft guns. They can eliminate both air and ground targets.
Another armament of the trains is AGS-17 automatic grenade launchers.
