Russia denounces conventional arms treaty in Europe

Russian President Vladimir Putin appointed Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov as his representative when the Federal Assembly considers Russia’s denunciation of the Treaty on Conventional Arms in Europe, should from the text of the presidential order.
The treaty provides for the restriction of five categories of weapons and equipment: tanks, armored combat vehicles, artillery with a caliber of more than 100 mm, combat aircraft and attack helicopters. The document also provides for the exchange of information and extensive inspection activities in the participating countries.
In 2007 Russia suspended participation in the treaty until “NATO countries begin to implement this document in good faith.”
In February, Russia suspended the latest arms control treaty with the United States. We are talking about the Strategic Offensive Arms Treaty (START). During his address to the Federal Assembly, the President announced that Russia was suspending the implementation of the document. According to him, Moscow does not break the agreement and is ready to return to it, provided that the nuclear potential of France and Great Britain, members of NATO, is taken into account. In addition, Moscow may resume nuclear weapons testing if the United States returns to them.
