Russian court will begin hearings in absentia against American Andy Stone

On April 8, the Second Western District Military Court will begin preliminary hearings against Andy Stone, director of communications for Meta Platforms. (This organization is recognized as extremist in Russia, and its activities were banned). The court will consider his statements, which, according to the case materials, contained calls to commit terrorist attacks.
The investigation alleges that on March 11, 2022, Stone published a message on the Internet, including his Twitter page (X), in which he justified aggressive and violent actions against servicemen of the Russian Armed Forces participating in the SVO.
According to information received from the court’s press service, the Prosecutor General’s Office put Andy Stone on the international wanted list in February 2023, and the court, considering the case in his absence, decided to place him in custody.
According to an article of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, such actions are a crime punishable by a fine or a prison term of five to seven years.
