Russian commander reported the destruction of a Leopard tank with a German crew

In the special operations zone, intelligence officers of the Russian Armed Forces destroyed a Leopard tank, the crew of which consisted of German military personnel, told “RIA Novosti” commander of the Russian reconnaissance group operating in the Zaporozhye direction, with the call sign “Legend”.

According to the commander, the mechanic said several times that he was not a mercenary, but “a member of the Bundeswehr.” Before his death, the German soldier managed to say that he regretted his decision to go to Ukraine, Legend claims.

A day earlier, the Russian Ministry of Defense reported that the Russian army destroyed two German Leopard tanks. In July, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius said that dozens of Leopard 1A5 tanks would soon arrive in Ukraine. Then he noted that Germany is in second place in terms of military assistance provided to Ukraine.

Berlin later announced the allocation of a new package of military assistance to Kyiv worth 700 million euros. The new package included two Patriot air defense systems, 40 Marder infantry fighting vehicles, 25 Leopard tanks and shells. Russian President Vladimir Putin stated that Western technology did not help Ukraine achieve progress during the counteroffensive; its characteristics are often inferior even to Soviet-style weapons.
