Russian climbers won bronze in the team competition at the World Skyrunning Championships in March. After the ceremony, their medals were taken away due to a complaint from Spain, which ultimately took away the award. About it TASS said Anastasia Rubtsova, who showed the best personal result among Russians and took fourth place.

Skyrunning is a high-speed climbing competition, held in mountains at least 2 km high with a minimum average slope of 6% and sections with a slope of 30%.

“Spain snitched.” They eventually took the bronze. This is dishonest, especially since we were already awarded,” said Anastasia Rubtsova.

According to the athlete, in order to take away the award, skyrunning was recognized as a team sport, although Russian climbers do not agree with this. “To be honest, it’s funny. We always run for ourselves; there is no teamwork at all. And this team competition is essentially a personal-team competition,” Rubtsova explained.

The athlete noted that during the competition the Russians were treated with respect and there were no provocations. To participate in the competition, Russians paid the fee established by the International Skyrunning Federation and fulfilled other necessary conditions.

The World Championships took place in Italy from March 6–10. Five Russians took part in the competition in the vertical kilometer and race disciplines. They took third place in terms of total personal performances in the team competition. After the award ceremony, they decided to take away the medals, citing the recommendation of the International Olympic Committee that Russians and Belarusians should not be allowed to participate in team sports.
