Russian boxers receive invitations to participate in European qualifying tournaments for the Olympic Games. This was announced by the chairman of the coaching council of the Russian Boxing Federation Eduard Kravtsov.
“Invitations are being sent. Suppose (Alberto – “b”) Batyrgaziev was sent to perform in the 57 kg weight category, on (Vsevolod – “b”) Shumkov was sent. I think they sent the same one (Muslim – “b”) Gadzhimagomedov. They are sent to participate in the selection,” said Mr. Kravtsov TASS.
Eduard Kravtsov added that the team will wait for the decision to participate in the Asian Games. According to him, it will be more difficult for Russian boxers to get to the Olympic Games through this tournament due to higher competition than in Europe.
In February 2022, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) recommended that Russian and Belarusian athletes not be allowed to compete due to the entry of Russian troops into Ukraine. In March, the International Boxing Association (IBA) banned Russian athletes from participating in international tournaments under its auspices. In October, the decision was canceled, Russian and Belarusian athletes were allowed to compete under national flags.
At the World Boxing Championship (WCH) in Tashkent, which took place from April 30 to May 14, Russian boxers took third place in the medal standings. Athletes won two gold and four bronze medals.
