ROC President Pozdnyakov warned athletes planning to change citizenship
The President of the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC), Stanislav Pozdnyakov, said that without the approval of the executive committee of the organization, athletes who have changed sports citizenship will not be able to compete at the Olympics. The corresponding post was published in his Telegram channel.
According to Pozdyankov, recent IOC recommendations effectively oblige Russian athletes to renounce their homeland. He also noted that he was not even going to predict the scale of potential damage that such a decision could cause to the entire Olympic movement.
“Without the approval of the ROC, an athlete who can be dragged to another country will not be able to compete at the Games in the coming years,” added the head of the ROC.
