The Executive Committee of the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) has decided to allow athletes from the Russian Federation and Belarus to compete under their auspices in a neutral status from January 1, 2024.
FIG promised to publish the exact rules for the participation of Russian and Belarusian gymnasts in tournaments at a later date.
Four-time Olympic champion in gymnastics Alexei Nemov said earlier that “gymnasts need to do their job, they need to imagine that they are now performing at the European or World Championships,” as it is necessary to remain ready for international starts. With regard to participation in tournaments under a neutral flag, such decisions must be taken by the athletes themselvesexpressed the opinion of Nemov.
