The decision to reinstate Russian and Belarusian boxers was made after a lengthy discussion by all committee members during the WBA convention, which took place on Sunday, December 11, in Orlando.
On February 28, the WBA website published statement, which stated that Russian and Belarusian fighters would be excluded from the rating lists. At the same time, the status of current world champions or individual regions was retained. After the start of the military operation in Ukraine, the WBA, the World Boxing Organization (WBO), as well as the International Boxing Federation (IBF) and the World Boxing Council (WBC) refused to recognize and approve tournaments and fights in Russia due to the situation in Ukraine.
