Russia has fully restored its diplomatic presence in Libya. Russian Ambassador to Tripoli Aidar Aganin spoke about this.
“The diplomatic presence in this country has been fully restored. Now we will work to strengthen our traditionally friendly relations,” informed Aganin (quote from RIA Novosti).
He noted that security conditions in Libya have improved, “the country has actually moved to a phase of peaceful development, disagreements between Libyan politicians are resolved through dialogue.” The embassies were preparing in advance for the resumption of work; since September 2022, a group of Russian diplomats has been working in the Libyan capital.
In 2013, due to the aggravation of the situation in Libya and an attempted attack on the embassy, Russian diplomats were evacuated to Tunisia, and subsequently the plane brought them to Moscow. In 2020 Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov informedthat Russia is resuming the activities of the embassy in Libya, but it will be based in Tunisia.
