Russian Ambassador to the US Antonov: Washington tried to keep American veterans out of Moscow

American authorities threatened to cancel the passports of American veterans of World War II who expressed a desire to go to Moscow for Victory Day. This was announced on Monday, May 8, by Russian Ambassador to the United States Anatoly Antonov.

The diplomat pointed to another surge of Russophobia in the United States, which occurred immediately before the celebration of Victory Day. The American authorities are once again fanning the hysteria, Antonov stressed.

The Russian ambassador urged the United States to change their minds and stop indulging the Nazis for the sake of opportunistic considerations. Antonov said encouraging Russophobia was unacceptable.

Russian President Vladimir Putin, in congratulating the leaders of a number of neighboring countries on the occasion of the 78th anniversary of the Victory, called it a common moral duty to preserve the traditions of friendship and mutual assistance bequeathed by fathers and grandfathers. The Russian leader called not allow Nazi excuses and their current ideological heirs.

Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said that Western countries, led by the United States trying to falsify history, “shamelessly promoting the lie that it was they who made the main contribution to the defeat of fascism.” The head of the Defense Ministry stressed that “we have no right to allow the lessons of the terrible tragedy to which Nazism led mankind in the 20th century to be distorted and forgotten.”
