In 2017, Vinnik was arrested in Greece at the request of the United States. In 2020, he was extradited to France, where he faced 19 different charges. The Russian was found guilty on only one count and sentenced to 5 years. But at the end of the term this year, he was not released, but returned to Greece. On the 4th from Greece, he was extradited to the United States on charges of money laundering and running an unlicensed business. According to his relatives, the Russian citizen was actually abducted for no good reason.
Russia has previously twice filed requests for the extradition of Vinnik to his homeland due to hacker crimes. But the documents of the Prosecutor General’s Office were not taken into account.
