Russia plans to submit a resolution to the UN Security Council for an immediate ceasefire in the Middle East. The country’s permanent mission to the international organization has prepared a corresponding project, reported TASS.
“We believe that a long-term solution to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict is possible only through peaceful means. We call for an immediate, long-term ceasefire that will be respected by all parties,” the document says.
In its resolution, Russia also calls for the immediate release of hostages taken during the conflict and the evacuation of civilians from the combat zone. Moscow expressed its strong condemnation of violence and all acts of terrorism. Russia proposes to the UN Security Council to organize the unhindered delivery of food, medicine and fuel as humanitarian aid to the civilian population.
On October 11, Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed al-Sudani called on Russian President Vladimir Putin, as the leader of the country – a permanent member of the UN Security Council, to provide support in ending the hostilities between Israel and the Palestinian radical organization Hamas.
The escalation of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict occurred on the morning of October 7. Hamas militants attacked Israeli army units on the border with the Gaza Strip, freely entered Israeli populated areas and took military and civilian hostages. The Israel Defense Forces responded by launching Operation Iron Swords.
