Russia will not curtail its lunar program after the Luna-25 accident – Kommersant

The collapse of the Luna-25 interplanetary station does not mean that Russia will complete its lunar program, President Vladimir Putin said during the plenary session of the Eastern Economic Forum (EEF). He added that the country has “excellent competencies” in space, and an analysis of the causes of the accident will be carried out.

“This is complex, responsible work, associated, of course, with high technology. We have… excellent competencies here. As for landing on that site, where no one has ever landed on the moon before, well, yes, this is a difficult job, of course. An appropriate analysis will be carried out and the work will continue. It’s a pity, of course, that the lunar landing did not take place, but this does not mean that we will complete development. We will continue to work,” said Mr. Putin (quote from “RIA News”).

Vladimir Putin also added that Russia will strengthen “even individual areas” of the space industry.

According to the head of Roscosmos, Yuri Borisov, the cause of the crash of the Russian spacecraft on August 19 was an error in the operation of the Luna-25 engines. A few days later, on August 23, the Indian Space Research Organization announced the successful landing of the Chandrayaan-3 spacecraft on the Moon.
