A law on the resocialization of convicts has come into force in Russia
The law on probation (resocialization and social adaptation) of convicted persons came into force in Russia on January 1, 2024. According to the document, three types of probation will apply to convicted persons – executive, penitentiary and post-penitentiary.
The first type will be applied to convicted persons when their punishment does not involve imprisonment. The second will work in colonies and correctional centers and will involve preparing a prisoner for release. The third type of probation is designed for social adaptation and rehabilitation of released citizens.
According to the law, work with a convicted person will begin nine months before his release from prison. Probation will be applied once and last for one year.
From January 1, 2024, the first two types come into force: executive and penitentiary probation. The implementation of post-penitentiary probation will begin in 2025.
