Putin: Finland will host troops and weapons systems after it joins NATO

After Finland joins NATO, Russian troops and weapons systems will appear near the borders of this country, Russian President Vladimir Putin said in an interview with Rossiya 1 and RIA Novosti.

He emphasized that previously Russia and Finland had ideal relations, without any claims against each other, including territorial and other controversial issues.

“We didn’t even have troops on the border with Finland, we removed them from there. Why are they doing this?.. This is an absolutely senseless step from the point of view of ensuring their national interests. But this is their decision. Now we will have troops there. Previously, we didn’t there were destruction systems, and now they will appear,” Putin noted, commenting on the possible entry of Sweden and Finland into NATO.

The President also noted that Russia had good and stable relations with these countries.

“I believe that they benefited more by adhering to neutrality, since this provides certain advantages, for example, as a platform for negotiations and reducing tensions in Europe,” the head of state added.
