Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin signed order to terminate the cross-border cooperation agreement with Finland. The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been instructed to notify the Finnish authorities of this decision.

Agreement, which Mr. Mishustin ordered to terminate, was signed in April 2012, the validity period was not determined. It provides for cooperation between the Russian Federation and Finland in controlling the state border.

The agreement was supposed to create a “full-fledged legal framework for cooperation between the central authorities and the border regions of Russia and Finland” and a “symmetrical system of interaction” between the two countries in this matter. Once Moscow officially notifies Helsinki of its withdrawal from the agreement, it will cease to operate within 90 days.
