Russia requested a meeting of the UN Security Council to undermine the “Nord Streams”

The Russian side requested an open meeting of the UN Security Council on July 11 to undermine the Nord Stream gas pipelines, which took place in September last year, Dmitry Polyansky, First Deputy Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the UN, said on his Telegram channel.

“We requested a new open meeting of the UN Security Council on undermining Nord Stream for July 11. We will strike another blow at the line of the Westerners that enough attention is being paid to the investigation of this crime in Denmark, Germany and Sweden and international efforts are not required to find the perpetrators,” wrote He.

Moscow asked the British presidency to invite representatives of these countries to the meeting, Polyansky added. According to him, the expectations of the report on their investigations among the UN member states are growing. Russia also intends to invite “a couple of interesting unbiased speakers”, whose names Polyansky decided not to disclose “for security reasons.”

The incident at Nord Stream occurred on the night of September 26, 2022. Both pipelines were depressurized by an explosion, after which two leaks were discovered that were located in the exclusive economic zone (EEZ) of Sweden, and two more in the Danish EEZ. Initially, Germany, Sweden and Denmark agreed to conduct a joint investigation, but this idea was later abandoned. In October 2022, Sweden announced the completion of the investigation, stating “increasing suspicions of gross sabotage”, but those responsible for what happened were not named.

On February 14, a draft appeal to the UN was submitted to the State Duma calling for an international investigation into incidents on gas pipelines. In response, the organization pointed to the lack of a mandate to conduct an investigation. Russia does not agree with such a position of the UN, stressed Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.

In March, Western media, including The New York Times, appeared reports of possible involvement in the sabotage of a certain “pro-Ukrainian group”. At the same time, it was emphasized that the United States had no data on Russia’s participation in the operation. The Kremlin doubted this information and called the messages a “coordinated stuffing.”
