Moscow requested a meeting of the UN Security Council on September 6 due to Kyiv’s ongoing shelling of the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP), wrote First Deputy Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the World Organization Dmitry Polyansky in his Telegram channel.

“In light of the ongoing Ukrainian shelling of the ZNPP and today’s reckless provocation by the Kyiv regime aimed at disrupting the visit of IAEA inspectors to the station, Russia has requested a meeting of the UN Security Council for September 6,” Polyansky wrote.

According to him, at the meeting it is necessary to hear the head of the IAEA, Rafael Grossi, on the results of his team’s stay at the ZNPP. “We expect the participation of UN Secretary General António Guterres,” he added.

Earlier, the Russian side requested an urgent meeting of the UN Security Council on the situation at the ZNPP, which was held on August 23. The previous session, at the request of Russia, took place on 11 August. During the session, Vasily Nebenzya, Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the UN, considered it absurd to accuse the Russian military of strikes on the ZNPP. He also stated that the demilitarization of the ZNPP would make it more vulnerable. At the same time, according to Polyansky, at the meeting no one supported the Ukrainian version of what is happening around the station.

Part of the IAEA delegation, together with Grossi, left the ZNPP today. The head of the agency said that in a few hours of the ZNPP inspection, he managed to collect enough important information and identify “key things.”

The IAEA mission arrived at the territory of the Zaporozhye NPP today from the Ukrainian-controlled city of Zaporozhye. A cortege of nine cars drove into the station at about 14:15 Moscow time. Prior to this, the Ukrainian side continued shelling Energodar, where the nuclear power plant is located.
