Russia refuses to allow Brazil to investigate Prigozhin’s death

Russia has informed the Brazilian Center for Research and Accident Prevention (CENIPA) that it will “for the time being” not investigate the crash of the Brazilian-made Embraer aircraft that killed Yevgeny Prigozhin, the founder of PMC Wagner, in accordance with international standards. CENIPA stated that in the interests of enhancing aviation security, it was ready to join the Russian-led investigation if such a proposal were received and the investigation was conducted in accordance with international rules.
CENIPA also said that the Russian authorities would not yet initiate an investigation in accordance with Annex 13 to the Convention on International Civil Aviation, as the crash occurred on a domestic flight and international standards do not apply to it.
The head of the CENIPA aviation brigade, Marcelo Moreno, explained to Reuters that Russia is not obliged to accept the offer, it is “only recommended to do so.”
At the moment, 802 Embraer aircraft with a capacity of 37 to 50 seats are in operation, built on the same platform as the aircraft of the 600th model. According to Reuters, this explains Brazil’s interest in investigating the crash of the Embraer Legacy 600 aircraft, which has a good safety record.
