Russia ranked 31st in Europe in terms of household spending on food

Residents of Luxembourg spend the least on food, Residents of Kazakhstan spend the most on food, Russia is in 31st position in the ranking, according to a study by RIA Novosti.
As noted, the share of spending on food in the budget of families is one of the important economic and social indicators. According to experts, in countries with a wealthy population and a high standard of living, the share of food expenditures is usually low. In countries where income levels are low and prices are high, the picture is radically different.
According to the rating developed by RIA Novosti specialists, there are significant differences in the share of food expenditures in the budget structure of European countries. The rating was prepared on the basis of official data on household budgets in European countries.
The experts drew attention to the fact that the top part of the rating is made up of economically developed Western European countries. In the first position is Luxembourg, the inhabitants of this country spend only 8.4% of their expenses on the purchase of food. Then come the Netherlands and the UK with 8.7% and 10.5% respectively.
The last position is occupied by Kazakhstan, whose residents spend more than half of their expenses on food – 53%. More than 35% of food expenditures are accounted for by citizens of Moldova, North Macedonia, Belarus and Bulgaria.
