The Russian military notified the Americans in advance about the combat training launch of the Yars intercontinental ballistic missile. This information was confirmed by the Pentagon.

A US Defense Department spokesman said Russia notified the United States of the launch through the Nuclear Threat Reduction Center. He also stressed that the Pentagon will continue to monitor the situation.

Earlier on Friday, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced the launch of a mobile-based PGRK Yars missile. The department noted that the purpose of the launch is to confirm the tactical, technical and flight characteristics. And they clarified that the training warheads successfully arrived in the designated area at the Kura training ground in Kamchatka.

The Ministry of Defense also said that in preparation for the launch of the Strategic Missile Forces, they worked out the redeployment of the Yars launch battery to a remote area.
