Russia may create an information exchange system to combat money laundering

The government announced the creation of an international information exchange system (ISI) to counter the legalization of illegally obtained income, reported press office of the Cabinet of Ministers.
The system will work with the countries of Central and Southeast Asia, the Middle East, Africa, and Latin America. According to the decree signed by Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin, 8.5 million rubles will be allocated to finance SDI in 2023.
The system will start operating in 2023–2026. and will be created on the basis of domestic technologies, specified on the website of the Cabinet. “It will include closed channels of communication with states friendly to Russia. Rosfinmonitoring will become the coordinator of the work to create the system,” the office concluded.
July 11 State Duma accepted the basic law on the introduction of the digital ruble. According to it, the status of the operator of the digital ruble platform is assigned to the Bank of Russia, and the regulator will also be responsible for the safety of digital rubles, organizing and ensuring the functioning of the platform.
In May, a representative of Rosfinmonitoring told Vedomosti that violations of anti-money laundering legislation in the circulation of the digital ruble will be monitored by the Central Bank. At the same time, it was originally planned to assign the function of combating money laundering to banks.
