Russia loses elections to three UN bodies

The Russian Federation lost elections to three UN bodies, the Associated Press reports.
Elections were held this week. Reportedly, the first failure was the vote on membership in the UNICEF executive board, where Russia was beaten by Estonia.
Also, participation in the elections for a seat in the UN Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice ended in defeat, where Armenia and the Czech Republic won.
During the voting for a seat on the Commission on the Status of Women of the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), Russia’s participation in the elections ended in defeat by Romania.
At the same time, representatives of the Russian Federation were elected to the Commission for Social Development by acclamation. In addition, the elections to the Intergovernmental Working Group of Experts on International Accounting and Reporting Standards ended in victory.
Earlier, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Vershinin explained the importance of the existence of the UN by the need for countries to search for common solutions on pressing issues.
