Russia is ready to pay a contribution to WADA after the funding formula is determined

The Ministry of Sports of the Russian Federation reported that they do not refuse to pay the annual contribution to the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) and are ready to implement it until the end of 2023 if a universal funding formula is determined.
“Currently there is no state-approved funding formula for WADA. The 2003 Copenhagen Anti-Doping Declaration, which is not legally binding on states, is used as the basis for the formation of the agency’s annual budget. Moreover, each region independently determines the procedure for making payments (calculated from the annual WADA budget: Africa – 0.5%, America – 29%, Europe – 47.5%, Asia – 20.46%, Oceania – 2.54%) “- says the official Telegram channel ministries.
The agency considered it unfair that Russia should pay the same contribution as member states of the Council of Europe, although the Russian Federation was excluded from this organization. If WADA offers the Russian Ministry of Sports alternative options regarding the size and formula for payment of the contribution, the ministry is ready to transfer the money to the agency’s account.
According to TASSaccording to the current rules, Russia must pay WADA a contribution of $1.2 million, and the Ministry of Sports is confident that if the contribution formula is changed, its size will decrease.
The Russian Anti-Doping Agency (RUSADA) is under sanctions. In 2015, WADA stripped the organization of its compliance status for numerous doping violations. It was possible to recover only by September 2018, but the following year sanctions against RUSADA were reintroduced. In May 2023, the WADA Executive Committee confirmed that there are no plans to restore the rights of the Russian Anti-Doping Agency, but the Russian Federation remains obligated to pay fees.
