Russia is ready to hand over evidence of Ukrainian atrocities in Donbass to the UN court

Russia is ready to present to the International Court of Justice all evidence of atrocities committed by the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) and nationalist battalions in the Donbass. This statement was made to Izvestia by Deputy Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation Sergei Vershinin.

Vershinin notedthat the Ukrainians who started this dispute have now become the accused themselves.

Ukraine filed a lawsuit with the International Court of Justice, rejecting Russia’s accusations of Donbass genocide. On February 2 of this year, the International Court of Justice decided on its jurisdiction in this proceeding, approving the admissibility of the claim. However, the court limited the range of issues considered. The panel concluded that it could not consider the issues of Russia’s use of force against Ukraine and the recognition of the independence of the DPR and LPR, since they do not fall under the jurisdiction of the court. However, the court admitted that it could consider part of the claim where the Ukrainian side demands recognition of the genocide and punishment for it.

Now Russia is preparing to present its evidence to the International Court of Justice. Sergei Vershinin emphasized that facts about the atrocities committed by the Ukrainian Armed Forces and national battalions in Donbass will be presented. This could be an important step in resolving the dispute and finding out the truth about what is happening in the region.
