The Prosecutor General’s Office of Russia, together with the Ministry of Digital Development and Roskomnadzor, has prepared a legislative initiative that makes it possible to quickly block illegal content on the Internet. To implement the initiative, they plan to use a special program, the supervisory agency told TASS.
“We have jointly developed a bill regulating an operational solution for blocking malicious sites using a specialized information system,” the Prosecutor General’s Office reported.
The department noted that in 2023 it sent more than 2 thousand requests to Roskomnadzor for extrajudicial restriction of content. Most of the demands were related to unreliable information about the Russian army.
In 2023, Roskomnadzor added 529 thousand pages to the register of prohibited information. This is 10% less than in the previous year, when 587 thousand materials were blocked. The department reported that most of the blocked content is related to fakes about SVO, extremism and propaganda of drugs and gambling.
