Russia has begun developing a 152-mm floating howitzer

Roman Khromov, deputy executive director for state defense defense and military-technical cooperation at Kurganmashzavod, said that at the moment, work has begun in Russia on the creation of a floating howitzer. He clarified that the gun will be 152 mm in caliber.
According to him, a prototype of such a machine was created in the 80s of the last century in the USSR. The howitzer was created on the BMP-3 chassis and was called 2S18 “Pat-S”.
However, this project did not go into production due to the Treaty on the Reduction of Conventional Arms in Europe.
“Analyzing and studying the fighting in the NVO zone, we came to the conclusion that the need for such a howitzer now exists,” Khromov said.
