Russia handed over to South Africa its version of the draft statement on Ukraine following the results of the Russia-Africa summit. This was stated by the press secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov.
“The Russian side prepared its own draft of such a statement, which was handed over to the South African delegation before their departure from St. Petersburg,” he said.
According to Peskov, the document will be published by the South African side “as soon as there is a joint understanding that the text has been agreed.”
On July 29, Peskov announced that a joint statement on Ukraine was being prepared following the meeting between Putin and African leaders. “Statements of both Putin and Mr. [президента ЮАР Сирилы] Ramaphos you heard, they were public. The discussion then proceeded behind closed doors. Based on the results of this meeting, a short joint statement is being prepared,” he said.
The Russia-Africa summit was held in St. Petersburg from 27 to 28 July. Participation of delegations from 49 countries was announced, including 17 leaders of African states. As a result of the forum, a Russian-African declaration was adopted with points on cooperation in the areas of security, economy, education, etc.
