The government extended the support program for air carriers for 2023, informs cabinet press office. The decree was signed by Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin.
“The government will continue to provide support to Russian air carriers in 2023,” the Cabinet said in a statement.
The government clarified that we are talking about subsidies that Russian airlines receive depending on passenger traffic. The federal budget provides 25.3 billion rubles for this support measure. The Cabinet recalled that the carriers’ cost compensation program began operating in April 2022. Thanks to it, it was possible to maintain passenger traffic within the country under Western sanctions, the press service of the government noted.
At the end of November, Rosaviatsia informedthat among Russian airlines an additional selection will be made to receive subsidies for domestic flights. Then the ministry said that applications for participation would be accepted until December 2 from airlines that had previously participated in the selection for the redistribution of funds, and the winners of the selection would be determined by December 9.
The Federal Air Transport Agency noted that the subsidies are aimed at repaying the costs of airlines that carried out transportation in the period from April to October of this year. Such a support measure allows maintaining passenger traffic on domestic flights at the level of 2021 and providing Russians with affordable air travel, the department said.
