Russia does not expect relations with the United States to improve if Trump wins

Russia sees no signs that if Donald Trump wins the presidential election in the United States, relations between Moscow and Washington will improve. This statement was made by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergei Ryabkov.
The Foreign Ministry representative recalled that when Trump was head of state, “the US line in the Russian direction was very tough.” In particular, Ryabkov noted that he surpassed his predecessor Barack Obama in the number of sanctions that were imposed on Russia. He also recalled “certain dangerous excesses,” for example, about posts on social networks on behalf of the US President “about certain American missiles that are about to fly.”
“By and large, there is nothing to base positive forecasts on, although some people just want to believe in the best,” said the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia in an interview with International Affairs magazine.
The Foreign Ministry representative also called for first waiting for the US presidential elections, noting that it is unknown what the election campaign will be like.
“She is already demonstrating high tension and sharpness. It is clear that there will be surprises,” Ryabkov said, adding that “we are nothing more than observers who try not to give up important points for our own understanding of what is happening.”
Earlier, European Union politicians suggested that if Donald Trump comes to power, he may decide to allow the United States to join NATO.
