Russia denounced agreements on pensions for servicemen of the CIS countries

Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a law on the denunciation of agreements on the procedure for providing pensions to military personnel of the CIS countries, as well as border guards of the troops of the CIS countries. Document published on the official portal of legal information.
The agreements were signed in Tashkent in 1992. The documents ensured the pension rights of military personnel of the former USSR countries living in the territory of the CIS countries. Earlier, the Federation Council indicated that with the advent of new pension legislation in the CIS, the agreements lost their actual meaning.
“With this in mind, a transition to bilateral agreements in the field of pension provision is currently underway,”— declared First Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council Committee on International Affairs Vladimir Dzhabarov.
In addition, former servicemen of the CIS countries formally fell under the agreements. When they moved to the Russian Federation, they received the right to appropriate payments from the Russian treasury (traditionally higher than in other states of the commonwealth).
The annotation to the document emphasizes that the denunciation of the agreements will not affect the pension rights of active military pensioners – those who have already been granted pensions will continue to receive them in the same order.
In February, the State Duma of the Russian Federation approved maintaining pensions for military pensioners who returned to service. Increased payments will also be received by those pensioners who returned to positions with a salary less than the one on the basis of which their pension was calculated.
