Russia circulated a draft UN Security Council statement on Nord Streams

Russia has circulated a draft statement by the Chairman of the UN Security Council on sabotage at Nord Stream. About it reported First Deputy Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the organization Dmitry Polyansky in his Telegram channel.

“We’ll see what maneuvers our Western colleagues will undertake to avoid the Council expressing a clear position in this regard,” he wrote.

In the draft statement, Russia proposes to condemn the gas pipeline bombings as acts of terrorism and calls for an independent international investigation, writes TASS with reference to the document. It also states that the Security Council “expresses serious concern” due to the lack of official information, which is hampering the investigation. In this regard, the Security Council calls on Denmark, Germany and Sweden to speed up the investigation and cooperate with the Russian Federation and the Nord Stream operator.

On the night of September 26, 2022, pressure dropped on the Nord Stream 1 and Nord Stream 2 gas pipelines, and later two leaks were discovered, which were located in the exclusive economic zone (EEZ) of Sweden, and two more in the EEZ of Denmark . It was then established that the pipelines were undermined; only one of the Nord Stream 2 lines survived, but it is not used for gas supplies, since Germany did not allow the pipeline to be put into operation after its construction was completed.

Already in October of the same year, Sweden announced the completion of the investigation, declaring “increased suspicions of gross sabotage,” but those responsible for the incident were never named.

Russian President Vladimir Putin, a few days after the explosion in the fall of 2022, blamed the “Anglo-Saxons” for the incident. The Kremlin has repeatedly called for an independent investigation and for Russia to be allowed into it.
