The Foreign Ministry stressed that any hostile attack against Russia would be accompanied by a harsh reaction. The department also reported that the Russian Foreign Ministry rejected a request from the US Embassy in Moscow for a consular visit to the journalist Evan Gershkovich, who was arrested for espionage. The department explained that this was a reaction to the fact that Russian journalists from the pool of Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov were not issued visas to travel to a meeting of the UN Security Council in New York at the end of April.
