Russia and Iran have signed a memorandum on cooperation in space, said the head of the Iranian Space Agency, Hassan Salariye.
“The framework for cooperation between Iran and Russia in the future was finally defined and signed today between the two countries, the parties have reached an excellent mutual understanding in various fields,” said Salariye (quote according to RIA Novosti).
Tehran and Moscow agreed to develop cooperation in the field of joint design and construction of sensing and telecommunications satellites, as well as the development of the necessary infrastructure for it and the conduct of joint training courses in the field of space.
Iranian Ambassador to Moscow Kazem Jalali said earlier today that negotiations between the two countries on cooperation in the space sector are ongoing. “As for our negotiations, I want to say that negotiations between our respective organizations in the field of space are ongoing, on a regular basis,” he said.
Russia and Iran signed an agreement on the creation of a space system for remote sensing in 2015. According to the document, the VNIIEM corporation was responsible for the development and launch of the satellite, the BARL research and production concern was engaged in finalizing the ground infrastructure, and the Iranian company Boniyan Danesh Sharg acted as the operator of the space systems.
