Russia and China may install a nuclear power plant on the surface of the Moon in 2033-2035, said the head of Roscosmos, Yuri Borisov.

“Today we are seriously considering a project somewhere around the turn of 2033-2035 for the delivery and installation of a power plant on the lunar surface together with our Chinese colleagues,” he said during a speech at the World Youth Forum (quoted by TASS).

According to Mr. Borisov, such a mission can be accomplished using robotic means. The technological solutions necessary for this are already ready.

December 29, 2023 Russian government approved ratification of the agreement concluded in November 2022 with China on cooperation in the creation of the International Scientific Lunar Station. The key participants in the project will be Roscosmos and the Chinese National Space Administration.

In September 2023, the Republic of South Africa joined a joint project between Russia and China to create a joint International Scientific Lunar Station.
