The Russian Aerospace Forces (VKS) and the Air Force of the People’s Liberation Army of China (PLA Air Force) conducted joint air patrols over the Sea of Japan and the East China Sea. About it reported in the press service of the Russian Ministry of Defense.

“An air group consisting of Tu-95ms strategic missile carriers of the Russian Aerospace Forces and Khun-6k strategic bombers of the PLA Air Force carried out air patrols over the waters of the Japan and East China Seas, the western part of the Pacific Ocean,” the statement said.

It is specified that the patrol lasted for eight hours. During this time, Russian aircraft were able to use the PRC airfield for takeoff and landing. The Ministry of Defense emphasized that during the joint patrol, the aircraft did not violate the borders of the airspace of foreign states. The department also noted that the patrol was carried out as part of the implementation of the military cooperation plan for 2023.

In mid-April, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu during a meeting with his Chinese counterpart Li Shangfu in Moscow expressed hope for expanding military cooperation between the two countries. According to him, it has a stabilizing effect on the situation in the world, reducing the “conflict potential”. Moscow and Beijing, in particular, coordinate their actions during the preparation of patrols and military exercises both on a bilateral basis and in multilateral formats, for example, within the framework of the SCO.
